Altec is pleased to announce the sale of a fully fabricated Altec Lathe Carriage to Weyerhaeuser Emerson, Arkansas. This exciting news comes hot on the heels of the successful installation of a new lathe carriage system in the Coastal Forest Products (Coastal) Chapman, Alabama mill at the end of 2017.
The Altec Lathe Carriage is an all-new innovative design, featuring 100% fabricated steel construction and electric roller-screw actuators. The carriage’s knife bar heads and trunnions are not only heavier but also stronger than traditional designs, ensuring increased stability throughout the peel. The knife bar comes with servo knife angle adjustment and Demco hydraulic knife clamps. The installation of our carriage means improved quality, tighter thickness tolerance, and better knife clamping. With this package the carriage will be fast and accurate, providing superior veneer quality and thickness control.
The carriage will also be supplied with a hydraulic spindle upgrade and a lathe controls upgrade. It will be fully manufactured at our facility in Diboll, TX where we will also provide factory acceptance testing and mechanical and controls training. Installation and commissioning of this project is scheduled for late 2018.
The new Altec Lathe Carriage will integrate seamlessly into Emerson’s existing green end.
