Altec Lathe Carriage
The Altec carriage is an all new, steel fabricated carriage, completely designed, built and tested at our facility in Diboll, TX.
The carriage is heavier than traditional carriages, with a lower centre of gravity. The knife bar heads are both wider and longer than traditional designs. The lower center of gravity and the wider and longer footprint substantially increase stability throughout the peel.
The carriage is available with our electric servo actuators on carriage travel, horizontal bar gap, knife pitch and vertical bar height. The carriage is also available with electric servo roller bar drive making it the first of its kind in the market. For a complete solution we can provide the carriage with our industry standard lathe controls.
Other features include the self-contained hydraulic knife clamps, oil lubricating system and multi strand roller chain.
Hydraulic knife clamps are becoming the accepted industry method for changing lathe knives and facilitating fast easy changeovers. This system makes sure of positive locking of the knife to the knife bar and utilizes a simple on-off control philosophy. The hydraulic power unit for the knife clamps is a small standalone unit supplied with the carriage. By removing the traditional drive housing end caps and all the added components and replacing them with a single direct drive chain, driven by motors at each end, the design simplifies maintenance, increases durability and allows the large spindle chucks to be able to stay engaged longer than the traditional designs.
